Really? Because she's normally the foil for someone like Powergirl or Starfire, Black Canary or even Superman, etc. People who tend more toward the violent "SMASH" reaction. ex: [link] There are a few exceptions like "Kingdom Come" which saw a more rash version of Diana, but those are usually considered ooc. Especially in the past 2-3 decades when they were focusing on making the each of the "trinity" distinct and complementary to one another.
That's really interesting! The most powerful image that comes to mind when I think of Wonder Woman is the Kingdom Come version; I didn't know her characterization there was so out of character from the mainstream stuff.

That makes sense. That story made a big impact on a lot of people.
her character is pretty much bitter in that story because her fellow amazons come to the conclusion that she didn't bring peace to man's world. They even remove her royal title as a result. She figures that she's a failure at making peace, her only choice is to make war. In fact, Superman kind of comes full circle and takes on some of her personality traits in their discussions. Kind of a reversal of their usual dynamic. Which makes sense in a story that supposedly takes place in the future.
